Touch screens are certainly not a new technology. Touch screen monitors have been around and in use since the 1970s. However, recent advances in mobile phone technology, tablet PC and PDA 'shaving seen touch screen monitors receive a renaissance in recent years.

And with a booming digital signage market hoping to continue to expand, touch screens may become the norm for the future and monitor signage applications.

A recent report by industry analyst NanoMarkets, entitled "Touch Screens: Technologies, Materials and" Markets, suggests that the touch screen will have a key role in the digital signage market in the coming years with the proceeds of the exhibitors Touch Screen hopes to increase by 33% by the year 2014.

Much of this increase, the report concludes, have generated demand for touch screens in mobile computing and personal, but also suggests the report, many traditional LCD or plasma screens currently used in digital signage can be replaced with touch screen technology.

With innovations like the iPhone and Microsoft's latest operating system Windows 7 which is oriented touch screen, combined with the falling costs of technology, we can even see the conventional and LCD screens a thing of the past.

The touch screen is also much more versatile digital signage, as it allows the interactivity that is simply not possible with conventional LCD monitors, unless combined with a keyboard or other input device. But having a single flat screen that acts as both a dynamic display and input device for a small additional cost is much more attractive to the digital signage market that conventional displays.

One aspect that touch screens can be difficult to operate safely, however, is in the digital signage market outdoors. As touch screens need for a screen exposure, protecting the touch screen monitor elements can be problematic, but boxes and boxes of LCD touch screen there to remove this problem.
